Things you can do to reduce spread of COVID-19 in your Tribal community

March 16, 2020

Traditionally, we center community and family in our communities. Tribal community events (e.g., dances, feast days, etc.), tribal ceremonies (e.g., society events, celebrations, etc.), faith-based gatherings, and funerals and memorials are critical markers of how much we care about one another, our communities, and our cultures. In this time of the global spread of the Coronavirus, COVID-19, we must take action to lower the risk of spread. Below is a brief menu of suggestions for how we can keep our loved ones and our communities safe, until the threat lessens. We have faced epidemics many times over. We can learn from that history and find a way forward together to safeguard and preserve our family members and elders who may be at most risk. Please keep in mind these recommendations should be reviewed to align with tribal and other restrictions / closures.
